MATERIAL, RHYTHM, AND LIGHT: INTERIOR DESIGN OF THE QUAY WEST RESIDENTIAL ENTRANCE HALL

The public area interiors of the Quay West residential complex demonstrate a disciplined approach to entrance lobby design, where the emphasis is placed on the expressiveness of large-format materials, clear zoning, and multi-layered lighting scenarios. Organized along a primary circulation axis, the lobby features a wall articulated with a textured horizontal relief of dark slats, which visually elongates the corridor and sets a rhythm of movement. The opposing side is structured by piers clad in light porcelain tiles echoing Calacatta marble, with recessed seating alcoves seamlessly integrated into the space between them. Serving as the primary visual anchor of the reception area, a monolithic desk crafted from black Nero Marquina marble with bold white veining is balanced by a sleek white vertical column and floor-to-ceiling glazing that floods the lobby with natural light. Suspended above the desk, a cluster of brass ring pendants introduces geometric interest to the upper volume of the space, while a matte backdrop panel features the complex’s brass logo. The lighting design incorporates multiple layers: ambient illumination is provided by concealed LED strips within ceiling coffers and recessed spotlights, whereas localized accent lighting is delivered by up-and-down wall sconces that emphasize the tactile wall finishes in the elevator lobbies. Moving from the main lobby into the elevator galleries, the tactile perception shifts as polished porcelain floor tiles transition into dense carpeting with a dark grey graphic pattern, which attenuates acoustics in the residential corridors while defining the boundary between the public and private realms of the building.
